Need to know where to get your Mothers Day Flowers this year?
Mother’s Day 2021 will soon be upon us, and like last year, you may or may not be able to see that wonderful woman in your life, your Mum. We want to help you celebrate your Mum’s incredible power with beautiful bouquets for mothers day.
Last year we saw a rise in flower orders from afar to all the lovely mums in the area as Covid stopped us in our tracks from being able to visit mums around the world. We, too, had to do the knock and run to keep up with Covid conditions, but we got lots of wonderful thank you messages from all the beautiful flowers that were delivered. Our beautiful bunches will be ready to go again this year so that you can send your dearest mother a bunch!
What is planned for Mothers Day 2021?
This year we have prepared well in advance to get your Mum the best Mother’s Day gift you can find, not to mention the prettiest! Our beautiful Mother’s Day flowers have been hand-picked to ensure she smiles from ear to ear even if you can’t see her in person.
As part of our plan to get flower gifts out to all our local mums, we have deliveries scheduled and arranged ahead of time to help cater for the love we will share on Mothers day with your Mum or woman you are celebrating on Mothers day. Our flower deliveries will span all over the Illawarra and follow all the rules in play on the Day.
And in the spirit of community, we will be working with one of our favourite local businesses, Chi and Co (external Link), to bring you some beautiful handmade soy candles to add to your flower bouquet. If wine is more her thing, a special bottle of sparkling wine can be added to your flower order.
This year’s Mother’s Day flower will be available for purchase on our store page in advance to ensure you don’t miss out and keep Mum smiling. We have already selected a few pretty blooms that we think will steal the show and make for a great bunch.
Some fun facts that we florists love about Mothers Day
Did you know that chrysanthemums are the unofficial flower of Mother’s Day in Australia? It is believed that chrysanthemums are a symbol of devoted love and loyalty, perfect for everything you want to say to your Mum! It also helps that the flower has the word ‘mum’ in it, and they are readily available in May. The wonderful thing about chrysanthemums are, there are so many different varieties, so we can keep with a traditional flower and still have an interesting and modern design.
The oldest recorded mother in the world as of 2021 was 73 years old, and to make that even more extraordinary, she gave birth to twins!
Mothers Day is celebrated on a different day every year, being the second Sunday of May – this year, in case you had forgotten, it’s the 9th of May.
Mother’s Day History
Mothers Day was started around the early 1900s by a woman named Anna Jarvis, who petitioned to get the Day made into an official holiday to celebrate the love and gratitude we have for our mothers, acknowledging the sacrifices they make for their children. She then petitioned to have it removed in a turn of events because she felt that it had become too commercialised!
Another step back in history is that the Greeks celebrated a spring festival to honour the maternal goddess Rhea, mother of the gods, making Mothers Day an age-old tradition celebrated by many cultures and in almost every country of the world.
We love you, Mum!
